We started with samples of cantucci and Holly wine which were outstanding. At the market we learned a lot about various foods and decided to try a selection of incredible fresh pasta and sauces. Wow! Some of us were intrigued by the tripe and tried a traditional sandwich. Of course we concluded at an historic gelateria and we were not disappointed. What a wonderful morning!"
100% yes. Whether youâre into wine, pasta, pastries, or all of the above, these tours offer something way better than a restaurant meal: a full-on taste of Florence, with stories, history, and heart baked in.
Youâll eat well, meet great people, and walk away with more than just a full belly - youâll have a real connection to the city and its flavours.
We don't skip opportunity for tasting delicious Tuscan food while in Florence. Soft fried dough balls, called coccoli, are our favourite delicacy for nibbling. We love those from Forno Canapa (you'll find this bakery on the street in front of Mercato Centrale; it's hidden among stalls). Their coccoli are sweet and salty at the same time and melt in your mouth. The plain one goes with anything you can imagine, from prosciutto, salumi, or even pesto! This morning Florence street food tour includes eating coccoli!
We always try a new place for a schiacciata sandwich while in Florence. These appetizing sandwiches can replace a full lunch or dinner and can be stuffed with anything, from salumi, ham, mortadella, ricotta, grilled zucchini, to porchetta.
We adore schiacciata sandwiches from I' Girone De' Ghiotti (Via de Cimatori, 23R; just around the corner from Piazza Signoria). Their sandwiches are freshly prepared, crunchy, warmed, and so tasty. You'll be back here for sure.
To be honest, we haven't tried lampredotto yet, but plan to do so soon. It's cow's stomach, cooked with onion, parsley, tomato, and celery, then sliced and stuffed into a panini together with green sauce.
We would also like to try the famous Florentine steak, which is thick-cut T-bone steak, grilled for a couple of minutes on each side, usually served with baked potatoes. It should be almost charred, and inside should be very rare. We think, we'll join this evening food tour with Tour Guy, to taste the juicy and perfectly prepared Florentine steak!
We adore sweets in Florence, especially gelato and cantucci. Our favourite gelaterias are Venchi (pistachio and dark chocolate combo is to die for) and Gelateria La Carraia (large servings and amazing taste, 2.50⏠per cone!).
The best cantucci we had from Leonardo Firenze, a bakery that handmakes traditional Tuscan baked goods. The cookies are tasteful and packed with quality ingredients. Try also their brutti ma buoni (which means 'ugly but good') are some of the best cookies we tried in all of Italy! So yummy!
