Sicilian cannoli - our favourite Italian sweet

Cannoli are the symbol of Sicilian desserts and our favourite Italian sweet in Italy. Once we tried them, we felt for them straight.

The crunchiness of fried dough shell and silky ricotta filling (that comes in many flavours) make an irresisteble combo. We could eat them all day long, for breakfast along espresso, as mid-day "merenda" or as dessert at the end of the meal.

At Nonna Vincenza pasticceria they made authentic Sicilian cannoli, in two sizes (mini and regular) and many flavours, from the classic ones (plain ricotta cream) to the chocolate or pistachio variants. Cannoli are often topped with candied orange peel or chocolate chips. The prices are pretty affordable.

Ever wonder how to make real Sicilian cannoli? Roll, fill, and taste your way through a fun pastry class in Rome!

Exploring other Sicilian sweets at Nonna Vincenza

The glass cases here are filled with a tempting selection of traditional Sicilian sweets, including cassata — a shortcrust cake made with ricotta cream and dark chocolate chips. Rich, sweet, and full of flavour.

You’ll also find Minne di Sant’Agata, small sponge cakes filled with sweet ricotta, often with chocolate chips and candied fruit. They’re topped with smooth white icing and a single candied cherry — a beautiful and meaningful treat from Catania.

Another must-try is the almond paste and the colorful marzipan fruit, shaped to look like tiny real fruits. The shop also offers plenty of traditional Sicilian cookies like cassatelle, infasciatelle, buccellati, amaretti, and nocatole — each one with its own unique texture and flavor.

In the warmer months, gelato and granita are popular choices, especially when served with a soft Sicilian brioche. Classic flavours like almond, pistachio, wild strawberry, and mulberry are always on the menu.

And if you're in the mood for something savoury, you can grab a tasty arancino or a rustico — perfect for a quick snack.

The space is large and airy, with two rooms and a cozy, old-world feel. There are plenty of tables where you can sit and enjoy your treats. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and atmosphere.
