May is a great time to explore Rome — the weather is warm, but mornings and evenings can still feel cool.

Where to stay in Rome in May

If you're visiting Rome, Italy in May, staying near one of the city's parks can be a great choice.

The pleasant spring weather makes it ideal for morning walks, picnics, and relaxing outdoors.

Neighbourhoods near Villa Borghese and Villa Doria Pamphili offer a quieter atmosphere while still providing easy access to Rome's main attractions.

Residental neighbourhood feels more local. We adored staying at Otto Rooms, cosy guesthouse on 4th floor, overlooking the nearby park with fountain.

On weekends, the park hosts market selling Italian products, from food to carpets, and as the sun sets, locals gather to enjoy music and the lively atmosphere.

May 1 (May Day)

This year, the concert returns to Piazza San Giovanni. It starts at 3 PM, entry is free, and no reservation is required. Access is available until the venue reaches capacity.

Many businesses in Rome may be closed, but plenty of places remain open.

Taste of Roma – May 6th until May 10th

Taste of Roma is an international food festival held annually in Rome that celebrates the city’s rich culinary scene. In the 2026 edition, it will take place from 6 to 10 May at the Gazometro in the Ostiense district, turning the area into a vibrant “village of taste” featuring top restaurants, renowned chefs, and innovative food experiences.

Rome Open Tennis Tournament – May 5th until May 17th
